The Gold Tipped Stag is known for its monstrous mandibles and light gold hue. These beetles pack a strong crushing bite and fight each other to the death for mating rights. While the female is a fraction of the size, the male is the powerhouse. Females burrow deep in rotting logs after mating and will lay eggs. There the larvae will feed for 2 - 3 years before turning into an adult beetle. This specimen comes from Indonesia and is spread to museum specifications.
